I'm a full-time real estate investor from Montreal, Canada. I've been doing it full-time for 2 years now having completed over 20 transactions (house flips as well as multi-family investing) and I currently own 65 doors.
For a long time, I've had the objective to move my business, and my life, to South California along with my wife and baby girl. For the last 12 years, my wife refused to move to the USA since she wanted to stay close to her family and friends, but now she is open to the idea. She knows how important it is for me to reach my goal. Bingo!!!!
Therefore, would any of you be able to provide some guidance and advice on potential visas and/or green cards for Canadians real estate investors that would want to move to the USA on a full-time basis?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
@Guillaume D. What part of Southern California are you considering moving to? That would help me in making a recommendation for an immigration attorney.
@Bryan Zuetel We are thinking San Diego or somewhere in Orange County (Huntington Beach, Anaheim, etc).
Welcome to BP. I have recommendations for you. Feel free to pm me.
I'm not sure how far along in this process you are yet but you might just want to take a working vacation to the area that you think you want to move to and see if the housing inventory is in a place where you can continue your business without too much trouble. Because you would hate to get down here and find out that the returns you could expect on flipping or with buy and hold would be half (just an example) what you're getting now.
@Aaron Klatt Great point. I've been to SoCal quite a few times, but I sure need to analyze the market in depth.
@Bryan Zuetel Can any of your contacts help?
@Jo-Ann Lapin Thanks! I've sent you a PM. Waiting on your response.
@Guillaume D. Yes, I will send you a PM with the contact info for a great immigration attorney in San Diego.
@Bryan Zuetel Much appreciated! Thank you
First I want to congratulate you and your wife on making the decision to move to so cal and even more so you for having a wife that is so supportive of you and your dream; That’s amazing! I don’t know much about work visas or the like but as a previous poster said I’d come to so cal on a working vacation and see if the market real estate wise is what you want and can make as much money in. Southern California is beautiful and I’m so grateful to have been born and raised here but the real estate market is tough compared to other parts of the country. If you do decide to come I’d definitely be willing to help in any way I could just let me know and again congratulations!
