Look what the fine folks of Antioch California are trying to pull.  They want $3000 dollars from me (I have 3 properties, each received the attached letter)

This is the kings men poking you with a sharp stick and demanding your coins. A Tax for simply being a landlord! 

It's exorbitant and unfair. I don't know how this is legal. 

Warning DO NOT INVEST IN ANTIOCH CALIFORNIA!!

@David J. What on earth makes them think that you won't just pass this fee along to your tenants?  Even if they're under a current lease, those do come up for renewal.

I'd find a way to call this tax out as a specific line item in your leases, just to stick a finger in the town's eye.
