Opportunity Zones: Are they a benefit to RE investors

I recently read an article in the New York Times regarding federal money being directed to "Opportunity Zones". To paraphrase a quote from president Trump, the initiative is "designed to draw investment into neglected and under-served communities".  According to the article, this will be good for the communities that this plan serves.

My question to the Bigger Pockets community is :

Is anyone currently investing or has a deeper understanding of the tax benefits to real estate investors in these Opportunity Zones?

Thank you
