Analyzing New Markets

What process do you use to analyze a new market? I have a few ideas where to begin, talk to real estate agent, network with investors on biggerpockets, and drive neighborhoods. 5 years ago I did have a real estate agent take me around Charleston SC and show me several rentals. Anything you would recommend I do or where to start to analyze a new market?
