Radon reading at 16.9 should I be concerned ?

Question

I’m about to purchase 3100sq. Ft. House. With large basement. Lehigh valley P. A.

Just did radon test and it was 16.9.

It was supposed to be my primary residence.

I’m really thinking of backing out of the deal.

Basement is unfinished and probably never will be due to radon.

Please share your thoughts.

@Arthur D. Radon can easily be taken care of see if you can get the seller to do it or give you a credit at closing .

That’s insane high (I think safe is less than 6?) but Radon fixes are cheap, especially in unfinished basements less than $5k would be my guess. . It’s usually just a pvc pipe with a fan.

I’d ask seller to fix it as they will have to disclose it once they know.
