Appraisal too expensive?

I'm in the process of buying a duplex and now my lender needs me to get an appraisal on the property. Lowest quote I got was $1100, and it stings a bit knowing I can pay that much and have the deal fall through at a later stage. Any suggestions what to do? My main worry is if the appraisal comes in way lower than contract price I won't buy it and then I wasted a thousand dollars...
