How to do cold calls as a property wholesaler?

I’ve started to track down houses that have been sold a long time ago then I would skiptrace their number. I did a cold call for the first time and somehow the word “wholesaling” slipped out of my mouth haha. Of course she ended the call right then. I use a website called freepeople search and have had a lot of luck there. I just need some feedback from people with experience!
