unrecorded square footage
looking at a foreclosure that the previous owner added around 200 additional square feet.
This was done without a permit, so, the County doesn't have the 200 sq ft on record, Shows a 2bd -1b, its now a 3bd -2 b
what will happen if I was to buy this property ? would this additional sq ft be grandfathered in? ,"as the Realtor told me", or could the county make me tear it off?
anyone come across this type of situation?

Mike,
We see that a lot here in Philly.
When you go to apply for a permit for your new work, the old work can be put into the record then. You may have to pay for that old work to be inspected or added to the record.
I would suggest you have it looked at for safety issues if you plan to hold the prop.
All this vaires from county to county and by state. Its worth asking at your local building permit bureau or talking to an inspector.
