I closed on an REO home yesterday afternoon. The title company sent a notary rather than a closing agent.

When I asked a question he would reply "I'm only acting as a notary and cannot answer your questions". So then we would have to call the title company and get someone on the phone to answer the question.

Really quite strange and a bit frustrating.

That's crazy...did the bank pick the title company?

I probably would have spent a few hours asking questions I didn't even care about, just to run up the bank's tab for providing the off-site notary service (though I'm sure at least part of it was charged to you on the HUD)...

Next time, I would insist on using your own title company...
