I made an offer for a HUD house and just got an acceptant yesterday. . It includes the inspection report. I wonder if it's necessary to do another inspection again? Thank you

I do my own HUD inspections and my rehab/repair estimate is always higher than theirs. And my actual rehab costs have always been higher than their numbers.

Kevin: Never even think about buying a house without an inspection, someone working on "your side". HUD inspections are generally vague (although it might differ from different parts of the country based on reply's to your question). Here in Michigan lately, HUDS are almost "all cash", no contingencies on financing. Good luck.

I wouldn't ever buy any house without an inspection. The one an only that I didn't, was a HUD, and I learned my lesson.

Jon, I am in Louisiana and the inspection we see from HUD properties are very generalized and basic. Also, I just recently purchased a HUD property and it was contingent on financing and on OUR inspection, we actually found several things that needed repair from our inspection and were given an allowance from HUD for some of these issues. After the inspection took place we had the option to ask for allowances or void the contract the whole deal was pending our inspection and financing. May be different in your area but this is what we see in Louisiana.

Around here the HUD inspection reports are more detailed than any inspection I've ever had done. And HUD won't let you out of a contract if you do your own inspection and find something you don't like.

Kevin, Hud does a very vague inspection on their homes it is not near in as much detail as a home inspection should be. If it were me i would have an inspection done. It will be better for you in the long run, that way you know exactly what you are dealing with instead of just a general look around inspection that was already performed. Hope this helps!
