Was listening to Sam Zell talking about how developers were planning on building 300 sf apartments for singles in New York City and LA he was saying out of his 18,000 units, 40% are singles and are willing to give up space for privacy.

In relaying this story to a couple at a rental housing association meeting I was informed of a complex being built on a 50 by 100 ft lot in Portland that will have 58 units, all 200 sf with one kitchen per 4 units. The rent will be $650.

This apartment isn't even downtown but 40 or so blocks out of the central business district in a light residential/commercial area.

This developer has built these in Seattle and LA. You can google 200 sf apts and see pics.
