I don't think you need a securities attorney that is local to you, unless of course that is just something you're more comfortable with. If you're willing to expand beyond then you can always reach out to some on BP here.

@Jillian Sidoti , I'm looking to partner with friends and family on mid to large multifamily deals. I've found conflicting information on whether investing with friends and family is subject to securities laws. Also, if it is subject to securities laws, does that mean a friend or family member cannot invest with me if they are not accredited and/or sophisticated? Lastly, if I do need a securities attorney to put together a fund, what are the disadvantages of using someone out of state? Will they be able to represent me, should litigation arise?
