What is an accredited real estate investor and how does one get to be accredited and when?
I believe the term accredited means 1M in net assets. The threshold to be called "accredited" might also be met depending upon yearly income. I am not sure that has any meaning or bearing on an investor's success! It does have implications for investing in certain investments.
It's basically a set of rules to help prevent unaccredited investors from making investments they're not ready for.
But they are all the cool things like private placement (buying Facebook) before it was public. Being an investor in a development of some sort. etc.
An accredited investor is one who is worth a million dollars outside of their principal residence or makes 200k a year (300K for couples) with at least two years in a row and the expectation of continuing. Hope that helps.
