Your favourite measure / metric for return?

Hi Folks!

What's your favourite measure for the return on your investment property and most importantly why?

I use a simple ROI calculation on properties that I own already. I'm not sure this is the best way to calculate my returns and if it is a good way to compare my real estate investments against other investments.

(Funds after sale / Downpayment) / Years Owned = Annual % return
