How to find off market deals other than utlizing direct mailers?

I've used the direct mailer approach to find off market deals, but in this competitive environment everybody is doing that. Therefore I wanted to know what other ways are their to find these deals?

@Keither Perry Are there people making a killing using direct mail in your area? If yes, then it's your mailers, not direct mail. 

You can do simple A/B testing, where you send half your list one piece (A) and the other half another piece (B), then see which one has a higher response rate. 

Continue to change your direct mail until you have the response rate you want. 

Direct mail is used because it works, don't try to reinvent the wheel.
