I am trying to find the mortgage balance owed on a property, I was told it's public records on the clerk of court website but I don't seem to see it...? I'm looking in Hillsborough county, FL.
No, you won't find a current balance on the clerk's site. How do you possibly imagine that could be? You will find the original mortgage amount when it was recorded, and the terms. The only way for you to find the balance is through the owner, from a recent statement, or from the bank if the owner gives you a proper AuthorizationTo Release information document for the loan. If the loans were current, and never modified or prepaid, you could do the amortization.
The mortgage principal is between the owner and his/her lender. It is not something that would show up on a government database.
I'm afraid you were misled on this. There is no public record of a current mortgage balance.
Thank you all. This is what I thought, but as you all stated I was misinformed.
