Hard money loan?

I'm looking to fix up my personal residence to get on the market and sell. The issue I'm having is that my credit needs work. I'm looking to sell my house and take the profits to fix my credit, pay off some bad debt and purchase the next property. I have talked to several lenders about a hard money loan but it seems no one wants to lend on a personal residence. Any recommendations on how to handle my situation? Thank you!
