Looking for a CPA in CA that will work with me to use my 401k fun

I am in Modesto, CA and have talked to 2 very reputable CPA's about utilizing my 401k to invest in properties. Both CPA's proposed that it is possible but it is a lot of work and not worth the hassle. Neither CPA got into details as neither sounded interested in obtaining me as their client.

I also own a duplex that I'd like to do a 1031 exchange for another like property.

Ideally, what I'm trying to do is utilize my 401k and 1031 exchange together to be able to make cash offers on properties.

Does anyone know of a CPA in the Central Valley that is comfortable with the requirements and procedures to make this happen?

Frank, most CPAs do not have good understanding on how self-directed 401k or IRA works, find the one who has experience with this. It does not have to be local to you, we are living in an age when most business transactions can be done over the internet/phone/email. The most important factor is the expertise and the qualify of service you can expect to receive.

You should stay away from mixing your personal and your retirement funds, because you are "disqualified person" in many cases this would result in a prohibited transaction, you don't want to put your retirement dollars in jeopardy. Keep it clean and simple: invest your retirement dollars separate from your personal funds.
