When to write off furniture for rental home?

Hello,

Let's say you close June 1 on an investment property but you need to furnish it (STR) to start renting asap.

Can you purchase furniture BEFORE closing date (everything taking forever to ship and would need to store), and then still write it off from taxes since the purchase date of furniture is before closing date?

Use the date it was placed in service, in other words presumably June 1
