Need a letter from a certified CPA

I need a certified CPA who can draft a letter for the division of taxation in rhode island that states that as far as they know i do not owe any taxes for 2022. I'll provide any documentation you need from my tax returns and fees for the letter. I used Pace Morby's Prime Business Pros to do my taxes last year and they are absolute garbage, and I can't even get the operator from their company on the phone to request this letter. The reason I need it is because I'm selling all the assets I have in an llc and the title company requires it or a letter of good standing (which requires a lot more documentation).

Help. Thank you!

Hey @Vlad Stinga ordinarily that’s done by whatever CPA you’ve been using to do your tax returns in the past as s/he is already familiar with your situation and comfortable signing such a letter.

Have you not asked your regular CPA/accountant, or have you not been using one and have instead been filing your own returns (or using a discount service like H&R Block or an online service)?

Edit: I see now that you wrote “I used Pace Morby's Prime Business Pros to do my taxes last year and they are absolute garbage.”

If you can’t get your regular CPA to do it for you, it could be challenging to get a new one who has never met you before be willing to write and sign such a letter.

You can fish around, maybe with the promise of moving your business there in the future, but it’s a long shot especially at this time of year when extensions for entities and individuals are starting to come due. And especially in the time frame you probably need.

If I were you I’d get that request to the RI Division of Taxation LOGS in right away, even hand delivering it for expedience, so as least you get that process started, and then you can keep trying to find a new CPA willing to sign that letter as a plan B.

This is, unfortunately, one of those “dig your well before you need it” type of situations.

On the plus side, it’s possible the DoT might get you the LOGS back faster than you expect.
