Cost for STR Accountant (Strategy, Planning, Filing)

Hello Friends,

I am new to the STR game and I recently bought my first place a couple weeks back. I am in the hunt for an accountant that understands STRs and can help me plan, strategize and file. What is the typical yearly cost for something like this for one property. I got quoted $4,000 with the first accountant I met with. Does this feel right?

Hi @Kyle Anderson - Congrats on your first STR! For a single property, $4K might be a bit on the high side, unless that includes year-round planning and advisory work...not just tax prep. A typical range I see for new STR owners is:

- $750-$1,500 for basic tax prep only (if everything's clean and straightforward)

- $2K-$4k+ if it includes: 1) Entity setup guidance; 2) Tax strategy planning; 3) Cost segregation consultation; and 4) Quarterly or year-round support

It really depends on what’s included and how hands-on your CPA will be. If you’re just looking for a tax return, that quote may be high. But if you’re expecting proactive guidance to reduce taxes and build a strategy, it may be fair.
