What entity should a Canadian set up to invest in the US?

For tax purposes, most people have been telling me an LLC, though I had one attorney say in an email that an LLC is not the best for tax purposes because apparently I would have ot pay Corporate Canadian taxes. Does anyone have experience with this that could explain?
