End of Year Write-Offs

My husband and I own a couple of rental properties. It's the end of 2016 and I wanted to know what extra payments should we make before the end of the year that will maximize our federal tax deductions for 2016 on our rental properties? Should I make an extra mortgage payment, RET pay, insurance payment, etc. on my rental properties? Thanks.
