What qualifies you as a 1st time home buyer?

My wife and I have bought a home. It was our first. My wife's credit wasn't great so they only put me on the loan. But her on the deed. If we go to buy another house and do the opposite(her buy it and put me on deed) would we still get first time home buyer benefits?
