Education tax deduction

Posted

What are the requirements for education deductions for the state of Pennsylvania? I am not talking about an actual college education. I am referring to an online film industry seminar that I chose to participate in.

The woman in charge says that the class can be written off for taxes entirely (and it’s expensive), but she’s from California and I’m from Pennsylvania. I have done some research after already entering the class and have found only 2 requirements for tax education deduction.

  • 1.The class is required for an employer’s business.
  • 2.The class is going toward a current career path and will not help to start a new occupation or career.

The film industry would be a new occupation for me. So is there any legal way I could actually write the entire class off? I guess I didn’t do as much research as I thought because I’m paying $497/month for 10months. I am only 2months in, but the 14day back guarantee has already expired. I could be saving that money for my future instead of toward a class that may not even jump start my career in the film industry.

I know it’s really early to be discussing taxes, but I need to plan out my next move to prepare for taxes.

Thank you. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
