I assume you're talking about estimated tax payments.  If you're talking about making that one huge lump sum payment for the year by the first quarter's deadline you could.  But not if you're talking about making just one single lump sum payment at the end of the year.  

Waiting until the end of the year could subject you to penalties if you didn't pay enough during any of the previous payment periods (even if you ended up being due a refund when you finally filed your tax return).
