Creating a non profit for college housing

Hello, 

I’m wondering if anyone has any experience creating a nonprofit? I am considering purchasing a group of houses near a college campus. The idea would be that it would be for a campus ministry specifically To house the students who are involved and desire more of a faith based living experience. Also, if anyone has any article suggestions or contacts in this area I would be very interested.
