Hello,
What’s the typical duration of a real estate contract for New York State? I am working with an agent to sell my property and the agent wants me to sign a contract to work exclusively with them for 6 months.

@Jonathan Beaumont , that is pretty standard from my experience, but you can always try to negotiate down if you're not comfortable with that time frame.

I agree with @Scott Wolf , 6 months is standard.
If priced right, that should be plenty of time.
If this is a high-end listing or has any kind of title, tenant, or condition issues that would make it difficult to finance, you may need more than 6 months.
Best of luck to you on the sale!

As others said it's standard. If you aren't happy with the listing you should be able to cancel anytime.
