🔐 Texas Landlords & Tenants: Know Your Rights & Responsibilities on Locks! 🔐

Vanessa Gonzales
Posted

Security is a top priority in rental properties, and the Texas Property Code has clear rules to keep homes safe:

✅ Landlords must rekey or change exterior door locks within 7 days of a new tenant moving in.
✅ All exterior doors need keyed & keyless deadbolts plus a peephole.
✅ Sliding doors require pin locks or security bars.
✅ Tenants can request rekeying during the lease—landlords must comply, but may charge for non-emergency rekeying.
✅ Lockouts without legal eviction processes are NOT allowed.
Following these ensures tenant safety and landlord compliance! 📋
