Portland Requires Landlords to Pay for Tenant's new Home after Eviction

Portland, Oregon has the craziest landlord tenant laws in the USA. Landlords who evict tenants in Portland are required to pay for relocation assistance for their former tenants. If this woke insanity makes you want to stop investing your money in rental properties in Portland, you may want to look at other investment options. One of those options is a Stairway Loan Account that pays you an 8% interest rate. Call Stairway Invest to learn more.

James, I hear ya! It can be challenging to be a Property Manager in Portland, OR! It has become more and more difficult for independent landlords to keep up with the constant changes that threaten their profits and make them liable to pay large sums of damages to tenants. I've spent countless hours in trainings and reading legislation to keep up with it all to be able to offer our clients the best service in the current market conditions. If you're a landlord in Portland who's not ready or able to get out of the market, I'd love to talk to you about how you can keep your rentals in compliance and in profits.

What are some of the craziest laws and fines you've seen?

The craziest of them all, in my opinion, is that in Portland an owner doesn't have an easy pathway to remove a tenant from their property if the owner themself wants to occupy the property. The Portland Relocation Ordinance allows a landlord to end a rental agreement to move in an immediate family member, but NOT the owner themselves. Ultimately, it comes down to knowing the laws and ordinances and playing along with the timelines. And, of course knowing a lawyer well versed in landlord-tenant laws, can't hurt. Cash for keys negotiations can still take place, but the property owner can always assume they will pay the minimum relocation fees set by the city.
