Why is rent due on the first ?

I personally am a horrible bill payer. I live a life of chaos, emergency interventions, and constant change. I frequently say that the primary reason that I have a Schedule is so that I have something to base all the delays on. Without a Schedule I would have no idea how far behind I was! <g>

The First Of The Month always comes as a surprise to me - and what the hell? It's not even on my wall calendar until it's almost past! <g> And I suspect that maybe that same thing happens to tenants as well.

So I have been thinking of making all rent due on some later day - say; "due on or before the 25th of each month". Because unlike the stealthy 1st, always sneaking up on me - with the 25th I can plainly see it marching towards me for Weeks before it actually arrives.

I wonder if that simple change will help them consistently pay on time? Not incur late fees? Not require prompting? Etc.

What do you all think?
