Property management company termination fees

Arun Gupta
Posted

I signed a contract with a property management company about 2 weeks ago. Their service was pretty poor over the two weeks and so I decided to cancel. For example, their response time was super delayed and the contractor prices were 2-3x than the ones that I found by myself. I already signed up with another property management company. They incurred some vendor fees and I already paid that.

To my knowledge, they have not done anything else on the property and now they are insisting that we pay the termination fees of $1300. This was stated in the contract. Upon insisting, now they are saying that they worked on the property to get it ready for renting. We never agreed on any of that work and they did all that without my permission. They are threatening to hand over to a collection agency for termination fees collection.

What are my options?

Replied

Welcome to BP!@Arun Gupta well you did sign a contract. If you really feel they misrepresented what work they did or did not do. You could report them to the Real Estate Board, provided they are a member. All the best!
