I have a rental property that I'm trying to spruce up with a new facelift. The current patio and walkways around the house are all concrete, but look a little rough and are all mismatched, so I'd like to replace them.

I want it to look nice since I'm spending a lot of money ($100k) renovating the rest of the house, but I also know tenants with kids can absolutely destroy pavers with their bikes and toys -- so I'm a little torn.

Should I install pavers or just use concrete for the patio and walkway?

I have pavers and they are such a PITA.  Loose stones, grass in-between, pain to shovel etc. Concrete is less of a headache in my opinion.

This is surprising to hear from a lot of the commenters. I have 3,000 square feet of pavers that I installed in my back yard 3 years ago and they have been zero maintenance. No grass in between, no loose stones. Literally zero maintenance. Maybe I need to credit the installer but I love them. I guarantee if I installed concrete instead that there would be stains and cracks by now (plus I wouldn't get near as many compliments as I get on the pavers!)

I put pavers into every one of my flips. I've probably installed 50,000 square feet of them over the years. They look amazing, everybody loves them, and they upgrade the feel of a patio, courtyard, sidewalk, or pool area a lot.

I think it depends a lot on how the pavers are laid. Some people put them up and flush them out, other people leave a space either by designer by accident.

but I agree with scott, pavers have a way better look feel and ambience.
