Avoid using GC for Mortgage Loss Draft Payment

Hello,

My property recently had some water damage that led to destruction of laminate floors and some kitchen cabinets. The mitigation company has removed all moisture and have also taken care of the damaged parts of the house.

I am planning the restoration of the damaged portions (new flooring, baseboards, new lower cabinets and some drywall work). The insurance company also acted promptly and have issued a check with the mortgage company as a joint payee. So far I was planning to get the repair work done myself as it is cosmetic and I have plenty of experience of getting new cabinets flooring installed by the vendors themselves.

Does anyone have experience of getting such work done without using a GC. I will be calling the mortgage company in the couple of days and am looking for feedback before talking to them.

Thanks
