I was talking to my mother earlier of plans to eventually be a full time real estate investor, with a focus on rental properties.  She said she'd rent one and I immediately thought, "don't mix family and business."  Then again, she's my mom, I'm suppose to take care of her right.

Please share your insights and experience on this matter!

I agree that renting to family isn't the best arrangement, if they are short, you'll be short and pulling up their budget and are you willing to kick them out on the street when it really begins to cost you? That's generally "family" siblings, cousins and such.

Mom is probably a different story, parents usually don't want to "short" their kids, be a burden, but you know mom better than we do! Can she pay is the question, will it be less than she has been paying?

Yes, at some point we may need to assist the parents or family, that's what families do, if it weren't for mom, you wouldn't be here! :)
