HELP PLEASE! What to do about this

Here is the story.

A girl rents an apartment in Steven's Square and ends up finding out her apartment has cockroaches a few weeks into living there. Calls the company to tell them and they send someone out to fix the problem. They say they sprayed and they should be gone in a couple weeks(obviously this won't work if the entire complex has them which it does). They don't go away so she calls again. They come back and say they sprayed it again and they should go away. They don't at all. She decides to move out and break her lease so she pays an extra months rent to get out of it and is told to leave by Aug 31st at noon because they had rented it out to someone else. All is great! She moves to NE and is happy to be done with that **** hole. 3 weeks later she gets a letter in the mail saying she owes $6,000 for the rest of year because actually no one did rent it out and she has to pay for all utilities since she moved out(told to leave because someone else was moving in). She was never informed someone actually wasn't moving in at all and now is expected to pay for the rest of her lease agreement. No lease breaking document was ever signed just word of mouth saying it was rented. What in the flying **** do you do?
