Vancouver Canada Imposing $10k vacant house tax- rental crisis

Vancouver $10,000 annual vacant house tax

Any thoughts on this? 

They are saying that there is just basically no rental properties available, so if you're just holding property you're getting taxed $10,000 annually for it.

Interesting approach by government. If creating more rental units is the end goal it will not be successful.  What may happen is foreign investors will find "family" to live in the homes rent free so as to avoid any landlord/tenant regulations. This may hurt rental investors but not likley.
