Am I allowed to change locks after giving notice?

I have a tenant without a lease that I inherited with the property. He pays (sometimes) weekly, although he is behind. I'm going to give him 30 days notice to vacate. Can I change the locks after that time if they're not out?

@Nola Mike Learn your tenant / landlord laws in your state before you evict someone. They very from state to state. From that you will be able to make a lawful decision.
