Internet and Cable shut off

I have a unique situation. I was renting a basement unit from friends who intended to buy a home on a land contract. They provided cable and internet and we paid half of the bill. the land contract didn't work out and they moved. We are still here for 2 weeks.

The owners have moved in upstairs. We have not paid rent this month because we had to set up at the new place (we have only been here 3 months). The owners cut off the internet and Cable that we were paying to hook up their own. Are they allowed to do this?
