What newbies should expect from the Real Estate Industry

I get a lot of newbies asking me what are the key ingredients in being successful in the real estate industry. Some think it's a better way to make money but don't realize the amount of time it takes to learn from mistakes or being let down etc. I would like to start this discussion thread so others who are new can get our community's thoughts and opinions so it at least gives the newbies a real sense of risks that are involved with being successful in this industry.
