Has anyone bought a property and found out that some MEP or Building renovations weren't permitted? Any horror stories or learned lessons?
Oh definitely. For me, it depends on the scope of non-permitted work, and the apparent quality of the work.
If it's an addition, adding square footage, I can see it being an issue come taxes/appraisals/etc. Electrical work, I want to make sure is done in a professional manner. Plumbing, will it clog or leak, etc.
Hey Mike McCarthy , I’m originally from Philadelphia and went to Temple! I am a GC in NC now but only do mega multi family construction for a developer. We always pull permits and I was wondering if I bought something that is clearly an addition, if it would bite me later. Could you go more into the appraisal and the un-permitted additions? I’m not even sure if it was un-permitted, but just assumed. How could you check the records on that?
