I am getting ready to become a landlord in Chicago for the first time. I am wondering what other landlords do for application fees when screening tenants. I have read the article about screening tenants and I have everything downloaded from the lease agreement package. I am going to use the rental application and lease from the package. I am also planning on using smart move. Do others make tenants pay an additional application fee? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
My Smart Move is pretty decent service.
I just grab their email address and have them pay for the application fee. IF any thing comes up in the search then thats when my questions come up that will require clarification on their part.
I use smart move myself but because I charge a non-refundable move in fee I cover the price of the smart move.
