Tenant Stealing Utilities

Pamela Deese
Posted

I rent a commercial storage building with no utilities included. After eviction for non -payment and breaking the lease agreement. I have found that they where stealing power and water. They had buried lines and connected them to outdoor faucet and a 220 electrical box inside another property of mine adjacent to that property? Can I have them arrested for tampering with the utilities and stealing both electricity and water.  HUGE MESS!

Aside from everything else, let's look at the real issue if you want to move forward. What is your end goal? They will not go to jail.

"...inside another property of mine..." where the utilities in your name? If not you are not the victim of utility theft and have no basis for a theft complaint. If they were in your name, what was the dollar value of the utilities stolen? Can you prove they made the connection to the utilities? They will claim they did not make the connection.

My suggestion, move on. Life is too short for petty crap.
