60 day notice cancellation

Hello,

I have a tenant leaving my duplex. He was on a month to month lease with 60 days notice to end the lease. Let’s say for easy numbers sake, he decided to give notice on December 15th(mid month). Does this mean he has to pay 60 days out from that date exactly and a per day retroactively price? So he would pay the remainder of December, January rent and up until feb 15th(or whatever exactly 60 days would be)? Or does this mean he is responsible for December, January, and the entire month of February? January and February being his(60) days?

Thank you!
