Tenant fixed leaky water heater hose - compensate?

They called me at 6am but I didn’t get it until hours later. They Went to Home Depot and spent $15 fixing the hose. 

I told them to take it off their rent. They said don’t worry about it. 

Plus their their time and mileage to fix it. Would you buy them a gift card or something? How much?

I do not like to reduce the rent, I prefer to issue them a check for reimbursements.  I would reimburse them for the cost of the parts provided they send me a receipt.
