Screening tenant for rental

Hello BP family I have a vacancy for a rental and I am in the process of screening a tenant and he is self employed how can I get a proof of income from him if he doesn’t have pay stubs since he’s self employed?

@Jonathan Anderson you can look at their previous tax returns, also you can ask for their bank statement but they may have the right to refuse.
