Real Estate Investing in Houston, Texas.
Hello Everyone,
I was told BiggerPockets would be a good place to get some information on what it’s like to invest in Real Estate in Houston Texas. I’m currently a landlord of 3 homes in Charlotte, NC. I own all of the homes myself and rent them out, anyways the market here is becoming very expensive and I was suggested to look into Houston, Texas. I’ve never lived anywhere other than Florida and The Carolinas so I’m very uneducated about Texas. Of course I could google but I rather hear about it from Investors that live in Texas themselves or anyone familiar with Houston.
I guess I’m just trying to get a feel and hear from those familiar with investing out there, what is it like? Is it hard finding tenants? What are the bad areas (crime)? Are the natural disasters a common occurrence, what insurances etc should I put into place? What are things I should look at for, be aware of? Taxes? Etc. I have so many questions I rather someone just lay out some general pros & cons for me if possible based on their experience.
I hope this makes sense, thank you!

Hey Juliet,
As @Jonathan Greene mentioned, Houston is huge market with wide ranging neighborhoods and investment options.
You'll want to narrow your focus by deciding what you want out of your investments in Houston, then work backwards to determining the areas in Houston that fit your investment objectives.
I will say the property taxes and insurance are higher here than what I'm used to in Ohio but probably not much different than Florida.
Hope that helps!
