Is it a good practice to set rent-to-income ratio requirements for applicants? What is a good number considered as an industry standard?

I require 3x rent+water in gross pay (4x for unrelated couples where neither applicant can cover on their own.

I rent to students, so I don't. For ordinary renters, absolutely.

I think you will find most landlords require 3x rent for gross income. May vary .5% here or there but 3% seems to be fairly normal.

I saw a few references to 3x ratio, sounds reasonable. Thanks!
