Report Event

The Union League Club of Chicago's Real Estate Group, in partnership with ULC Public Affairs and the Chicago Association of Realtors, invites you to attend a forum examining two City of Chicago ordinances -- the Affordable Requirements Ordinance and the Residential Landlord and Tenant Ordinance -- and how they may affect the Chicago real estate market.

The Affordable Requirements Ordinance (ARO) was adopted in 2003 to help create affordable housing units in the city. Developments subject to ARO must set aside 10% of residential units as affordable housing or donate $100,000 per required unit to the City’s Affordable Housing Opportunity Fund; for projects receiving financial assistance from the city, 20% of the units must be affordable. Currently, an Affordable Housing Task Force of community leaders, aldermen and developers is seeking public comment and developing recommendations to reform the ARO. The Residential Landlord and Tenant Ordinance (RLTO), originally adopted in 1986, enumerates the duties and rights of landlords and tenants residing in Chicago rental units. The RLTO contains rules governing tenants' general obligations, landlords' right of access, security deposits, and related matters.

Our panelists for this forum are:

  • Brian Bernardoni, Senior Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy, Chicago Assn. of Realtors
  • Alderman Ameya Pawar, 47th Ward
  • Adam Gross, Business and Professional People for the Public Interest, member, Affordable Housing Task Force
  • Paul Colgan, Consultant/Lobbyist for the Homebuilders Assn. of Greater Chicago
  • This complimentary event begins with registration at 4:00 p.m., followed by a moderated panel discussion from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., and concludes with a networking session. A cash bar will be available. For more information, please contact ULC Public Affairs at (312) 435-5946.  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/real-estate-forum-tic...
