Why are short-term rentals (e.g., Airbnb, VRBO, HomeAway, etc.) so attractive to investors? Since travelers spend more on lodging while traveling than they do on monthly rent, the investor conversely makes more money from short-term rentals than by traditional leases with tenants. Some investors report that they earn up to 275% or more by switching to short-term rentals.

We have asked several of our members to share their experiences with short term and vacation rentals.

Debra Felderhoff has been investing in real estate for many years and has about 100 units that she has bought creatively over the years. She has two vacation rental properties, one at the Lake of the Ozarks and one in Texas. She will be sharing her perspectives on Vacation Rentals.

Kim and her son Joe Donaway have also been investing in real estate for many years and Joe was the catalyst for them to convert a few of their local rental properties into Short Term Rentals. They will be sharing their perspectives on local Short Term Rentals.

Some of the topics of discussion planned:

  • Extra Rules and Regulations that we need to learn about and budget for.
  • Niche Markets in Short Term Rentals that One Might want to explore.
  • Should you Manage on Your Own or Hire a Management Company.
  • The Numbers: rents, nights rented, profits
  • Marketing Platforms to help market and collect fees.
  • Tips for Marketing Unit
  • What they have learned so far.
  • Tips they have for the new Short Term Rental Landlord

Please join us for Networking and the Vendor Hall at 6pm and then stay to learn from local MAREI Members who have a ton of information to share both on Short Term and Vacation Rentals as well as Real Estate Investing in General. We plan for a couple of short “Ted Talk” type presentations and then follow up at the end with Q & A.
